Let the games begin

We watched the opening ceremony at the bandstand after a sparkling set from Belle & Sebastian. The renovation is top-notch, though everything got a bit blurry for a while after a song was dedicated to Letty. An affectionate squeeze from Adrienne brought it back into focus before we wandered down to the Poetry Club. We danced around our handbags and drank too much beer when the wine, predictably, ran out. A stranger put her arm round my shoulder as 20 women screeched the chorus to New England, and I remember thinking this is what discos used to be like. And on very special days like this one, sometimes they still are.
