The Pavilions, Sheffield Botanical Gardens
Before leaving Sheffield to drive home this morning, we popped into the Botanical Gardens, one of our favourite places in the city. They looked even better than usual in the lovely sunshine.
The Pavilions were an original feature of the Gardens when they opened in 1836. The ravages of time, neglect and funding cuts caused them to be become derelict, and they were boarded up in the mid 1990s. Since then, however, the Gardens (including the Pavilions) have been completely renovated; the Lottery Heritage Fund contributed £5.06m, with local voluntary funding raising a further £1.22m. I think it was all worth it! The Pavilions contain a wide variety of interesting plants - possibly a subject for another blip next time we visit the city!
