Toby’s Mouse!
A fascinating trip out to The Manor at Hemingford Grey, Nr Huntingdon.
This visit ticked so many of my interest boxes.
A historic house which has changed in size over time having been initially built circa 1130. It was bought by Lucy Boston in 1939 and was her home throughout her life. She was the author of the Green Knowe series of children’s books and spent her time sewing patchwork quilts in the winter and in the extensive gardens in the summer.
There are extensive gardens, a collection of her quilts to view, a most quirky house which has the top bedroom furnished as described in her children’s books, including Toby’s mouse (shown in the blip).
I resisted the temptation to buy plants for the garden, but was unable to resist a pack of “fat quarters”!!!!
The house is open by appointment. If it interests you, have a look at the website to get a better idea of what it offers. Refreshments are available in the village.
