Cardiff City Centre View
Yet again another lovely day, and on checking we have run out of Rose wine. You can't beat a few chilled bottles a hot day, and we had none.
I made a trip to Sainsburys and bought half a dozen, and some bits and pieces to make it up to over £30 so I could get £4.50 off, and with my Nectar points, the bill was brought down to about £16. I paid with my Tesco card, and those points coupons will be due shortly and should be well above the £20 it normally is. There's a shopping war on at the moment, the Chief Executive of Tesco has lost his job as their profits have fallen 7%. The budget supermarkets like Lidl and Aldi, which I mostly use now, are hurting the big boys; good for us consumers.
The blip photo is of Cardiff City Centre with a view ( L to R) of The Crown Court, City Hall and National Museum of Wales.
Cardiff's City Hall stands in what has been acclaimed one of the finest civic centres in Europe. The magnificent Edwardian City Hall is the finest building of this superb ensemble, and opened in 1904.
The Civic buildings stand in Cathays Park. The Bute family sold the 59 acres to the town in 1898, for £159,000. Plans were drawn up for the new buildings, and the new Town Hall (Cardiff was not yet a City) was to form its focal point.
The design is inspired by English and French Renaissance architecture, but has in addition all the presence and confidence of the Edwardian period, when Cardiff’s prosperity from the coal industry was at its height. City Hall is dominated by the 194 foot high clock tower, and the dome is surmounted by a Welsh dragon, sculpted by HC Fehr.
On getting home, I opened up an online account with Sainsburys as a spend of £60 gives you £15 off the order. I don't mind paying a couple of quid for delivery, but we are forced to pay 5p for plastic bags ( a Welsh Government order), which I don't agree with. Sainsbury put 40p on the order for this! Can you guess what I ordered? Clue: The delivery van will probably clank along to the clinking of glass bottles! Best the driver goes carefully over any speed bumps!
