It’s not often . . .

. . . that one can take a picture like this in the centre of Carlisle. Look at that wonderful blue sky!!

This is the top of one of the two imposing drum towers that are collectively known as the Citadel. They are the first things that visitors see as they emerge from the Railway Station and are very impressive.

Originally built in 1541 by Henry VIII to strengthen the southern entrance to the city, they were rebuilt in 1810 to a Thomas Telford design and for a long time they housed the courts and county gaol.

The hot weather continues.
