Today's the day ........................... to do it all again

Do you remember when we went to Manchester for the day back in June?

Well, what I didn't tell you was that while we were on the platform at Oxenholme Station waiting for our train to arrive - I happened to notice that our tickets (booked on-line and just collected from the machine) were dated 23 July. And seeing that they had been quite cheap because they were only valid for that particular train - they were no use to us whatsoever on that day. We just had to go and buy another set.

That left us with tickets for 23 July which we could just have cancelled - but they would have charged a fee which would have been more or less the value of the tickets. (I hope you're following all this?!) So anyway - what we decided to do - was just to use the tickets and go to Manchester again today.

And what a good day it turned out to be - because this week it's the Manchester Jazz festival with lots going on right through the day. We treated ourselves to a very posh afternoon tea at the Midland Hotel and were entertained by the exquisite combination of George King (piano) and Karl Raven (saxophone) giving their own very unique take on some of the classic jazz numbers like Autumn Leaves and Bye Bye Blackbird. The weather was hot and the skies were blue. Just the sort of day to enjoy summer jazz in the city ............................
