Disappointing
View from what I considered the best restaurant in Oban – till tonight. Not only was it incredibly hot, the food was nowhere near the standard I expected from previous visits. Maybe it has changed hands, it’s now open 7 days a week two sittings a night with a very average but expensive menus, instead of 3 nights a week when the menu was imaginative and excellent. We complained about the heat, which naturally got worse as the chef started cooking, and we were told the heat had been even worse last night by 8.30 and that the fan wasn’t working tonight. So no one had the interests of the diners at heart enough to pop round to Homebase and buy another desk fan all day today. It would have helped, it’s not a large area to cool. We couldn’t finish our dinner, just too uncomfortable to eat, and left early without any pudding. I doubt we’ll be going again. What a shame.
The view is still lovely, across to the Corran Esplanade with St Columba’s church to the right, and the remains of Dunollie Castle on the hill to the left of the buildings. The hills of Morvern in the distance.
