twenty twenty
I went a walk into the city centre to catch the buzz before the games open. It was a gloriously sunny day. Certain streets and paths are now in lock down till the games end and it has advised that cycling or walking might be quicker.
These markers, then, have appeared around the pavements around the venues. This one is on Sauchiehall Street and is just one of many that count down the walking minutes to each venue. I wonder if anyone could work out where these markers were, the clue being that it's 20 minutes to Kelvingrove bowls and the same to George Square.
Anyway. The town was indeed abuzz. TOOT will be jealous to know that Sir Brad of Wiggins stopped right beside me at the lights on St Vincent Street, just where it crosses Buchanan St, with the 3 other cyclists from the England team. I think people were shocked to see him there at 11.30, people just gaped as the cyclists all looked concentratedly ahead waiting for the lights to change and I fumbled for my camera only to find that the battery was flat! Then, red light to green, off they went with the ease of a dolphin splitting the bow-waves of a ship and slicing through the city-sea.
There used to be a sign on the giant gas storage tanks that you saw as you approached the city from the East. It said Glasgow Is Alive !!, and today this is what I felt about it. The sun helps.
