Winter school mornings

How hard is it to get kids to dress according to the weather instead of their own whim? The youngest had to be restrained from removing his jacket before boarding the bus several times, the middle one wanted to know why she had to wear a jacket that looked so " big, poofy and fat" (because it is warm? ), and the eldest is illegally (and reluctantly) wearing my jacket because he lost his and I am refusing to glibbly replace a $90 lightweight waterproof uniform jacket. If this cold weather continues, however, I may need to cave on that front.
