Oyster Catcher
Since we were already so far North, we wanted to go the whole hog and see if we can reach the topmost part of the mainland. There didn't seem that much to do at John O'Groats, apart from posing next to the roadsign, so we headed for the more interesting sounding Smoo Cave near Durness. It wasn't a bad drive but my nerves were a bit frayed as I hadn't fueled the car up for the trip and it soon dawned on us that there weren't going to be any petrol stations until Durness itself.
It was well worth the long drive though. This shot was taken on the cliffs outside Smoo Cave, overlooking the beach. We didn't get to explore that beach but did stop at the nearby Sango Beach with its amazing rock formations.
