Dale and Moor
Enjoyed a cycle ride onto the moors today. Although still hot a breeze helped to keep me to stay relatively cool. It also kept the Thunder bugs at bay that plagued my last ride.
This is a view back down the hill to Lastingham nestled in the dale. Beyond the heather of the moors is just beginning to come into bloom. The characteristic purple hue should be at its peak in August.
The church in the picture is St. Mary's which was founded in the 7th century by St. Cedd as a monastery and was succeeded by his brother St. Chad who went on to found Lichfield Cathedral. St Cedd is buried close to the altar in the crypt and this still attracts many visitors.
