Ganesha Shrine

This is one of Bangkok holiest shrine. I live next to this shrine in Huai Khwang. Ganesha belongs to the Hindu pantheon but is highly revered here in thailand. He is the elephant deity riding a mouse, the lowest of creatures. He has four arms each holding a symbolic attribute. Ganesha is the patron of arts & sciences, the god of wisdom & intelligence, who remove all obstacles. As the Lord of success, destroyer of evils & obstacles, he is the god of education. This is why students come & pray at his shrine. And because of his knowledge, there are always fortune-tellers around the shrine. The Thais are very superstitious. Ganesha Shrine is always open and there are worshippers there at all time and all night long.
Perhaps the elephant god explains why Thais in particular have such an admiration for their elephants. In this part of the world, Ganesha has a gold appearance like most of the Buddhas in Thai or Lao temples.
