Moving On

I'm pretty gutted today. Today I have to throw these trainers out.

I'm going to confess: I like trainers. I always have. I remember my very first proper pair of trainers were a Puma Trinomic bought when I was 16. Growing up we were fairly poor, so good footwear was hard to come by until I had the ability to earn it myself.

The trainers above have served my for over 30% of my life. The ones with the grey holographic three stripes were purchased in May 2003 from a sports shop in Plymouth, and in actual fact they haven't got any holes in at all. The red three stripes have been with me a little less time, purchased from a sports shop in Bari, Italy for 60 Euro in 2008. That's 17 years of my life (collectively) I've been able to pull these beauts on my toes.

Now I have to throw them away as part of a deal with Bryher. I've been putting it off - a man can get attached to a pair of trainers. A couple of pairs of new Adidas Gazelles will replace them in the sweetner to the deal.

In other news there will be a name change on my journal fairly soon. I can exclusively reveal to my Blip subscribers that I have handed my notice in at Jewson after just eight months in charge at Bourne. I have reasons (many of them) but the main one is the travelling each day and the effect it is having on my quality of life.

As of four or five weeks time I shall be taking up a role as a Depot manager of Howden Joinery initially based in Cambridge. I'm pretty excited about it now but it has been on the table for a couple of months.

So it's out with the old (job and trainers) and in with the new.
