Carl's eye for the prize

Catching up with Trisharooni and partner Carl this afternoon, I was taken by this beautiful copper etching that I had not noticed before, as it had been hidden away in a dull corner.

Now taking pride of place on the dresser, this beautiful artwork was purchased by Carl as part of a job lot at an auction when he was just 15 . Also part of the job lot was a Norman Lindsay drawing that is now quite a collector's piece.

But my preference is for this lovely lady, shimmering in a backgound of glowing copper as the paintwork ages and flakes.

He almost missed out, as a copper merchant was his main competition on the day. I don't like to think what would have happened to this lovely work and Norman's drawing if he hadn't won out on the day.

He's got a good eye from a pretty thing, that Carl.

Yes, he does.
