Pont d'Avignon

The Pont Saint-Benezet, mostly known as Pont d'Avignon, is in fact only the remains of a historic bridge over the Rhone in the center of the southern French city of Avignon. The bridge is known for the children's song Sur le pont d'Avignon. The bridge was originally 899 feet long and had 22 arches. Only a few arches are now over.

This 12th-century bridge was once the only fixed link across the river between Lyon and the Mediterranean. The bridge crossed the River Rhone through located in the middle of the river island of Ile de la Barthelasse.
