70 mile Training Ride Support Station

I couldn’t resist documenting my longest training ride of 70 miles today.

Kathy is such a good sport to help me with this bicycle training project.

Kathy and I used this ride as a dress rehearsal for my “Century” ride coming up on August 2nd.

We set up our shade cover in Alton-Baker Park so I could ride 12 mile circuits on the Willamette River Bicycle/Pedestrian Trails and stop in on each lap.

I felt blessed with cool overcast weather, however the support crew (Kathy and Ellie) were not as happy about it.

The whole ride and support process went very well.

I rode 71.81 miles at an overall average speed of 14.8 mph in 4 hours 51 minutes.

The dextrose / maltodextrin gel energy drink Kathy and I cooked up worked perfectly.

I must say that I was glad I planned for 70 miles today as I was certainly ready to get off the bicycle at 70 miles.

Two weeks to complete the final preparations for the Century ride that is the climax of 3 months of training.

I'm not going to give it a thought for a few day though because we're going camping tomorrow.
