The Tyne Swing Bridge

Well today was the return South to Yorkshire...and the trip back over the Tyne.......

I have always marveled at the variety of engineering approaches that have been applied to crossing the Tyne but one that often gets over looked (literally because it is one of the lowest) is the Tyne swing bridge, a 138 year old construction powered by electrically operated hydraulic pumps.
