I Really Earned This Medal Today
Today I ran five miles in the Anniversary Run. It was all around the Olympic park. It's to celebrate the anniversary of the Olympics.
It was the hardest challenge I've ever done. One because I haven't been running more than 1.5 miles in my training for it and two, because it was so bloody hot. I have never done anything in that heat before. I have no idea what the temperature was but I felt awful while running. I have slightly low blood pressure as it is and the heat just made things worse. I felt very dizzy at times.
At mile three we had water. Water has never tasted or felt so good. At mile four there was a shower system you could run under...I wanted to stay there.
But I finished. I'm so proud of myself for sticking with it. I passed two people who were on the floor passed right out needing medical help. I thought at one point it was going to be me as well. I actually started to see double. That finish line couldn't come quick enough.
After the run we went and had something to eat and drink. Usually one diet coke or soda water is enough for me but I downed three large glasses of diet coke in no time at all.
Did a bit of retail therapy and burnt a hole in the credit card, then made our way home.
All this time the sun was shining.
Arrived at Shenfield station and you could hear the thunder rumbling. Driving home was horrific. Thunder, lightening and torrential rain. I couldn't believe it. I could have done with that kind of weather for the run.
Managed to do a bit of gardening when the rain wasn't so heavy....that's when I needed the sun to come out....but it never reappeared. Hopefully it will tomorrow. I think I'll sleep well tonight.
Forgot to say Chris Hoy started the race....and was there high fiving us all :)
