Journey to Graduation
We drove to the midlands from home and for some crazy reason, despite that it was stressful for him as the driver and for my mum as the mapreader (we have a satnav, I maintain she's surplus in that role) my dad decided that he wanted to drive through London rather than around it. I enjoyed this unexpected journey a lot because I love going through London in a car - I do it about once every five years, and so it always feels like a special occasion - and London is different viewed from the car - it's viewed, for a start, because when you're on the underground you (obviously) can't see anything - and our overgrounds aren't in the city like some of the Paris or Berlin lines. I do like London by bus, but still the car feels like a luxury. ALTHOUGH the megabus does quite a nice little twirl around North London before heading back to Cov. But being in the car with my parents driving through London reminds me of being five and younger, and driving to visit my dad's mother in her tiny beloved (to me) council place near Queen's Park, skipping in her concrete square of garden, running through the rainbow fly curtain to the kitchen, and eating custard and casserole with her. Neither of which I particularly like now.
