Fancy a swim?

Cath views the swimming pond at Nant-y-bedd, open today in the National Gardens scheme. The gardens are magical, enchanting, inspirational, and such fun! This swimming pond has an edge where marginal plants are growing. In future years, these will add a wonderful character to the pond as well as keeping the water clear of algae, with luck! In July on their website, Sue Mabberley, who made the pond last year and who has been gardening here for 34 years, describes "swimming with newts, water boatmen, pondskaters, large red damselflies, dragonfly larvae, whirlygig beetles (are they really called that?) the first blossoms on the native white water lilies and the tadpoles rapidly turning into little frogs." And there in the background is their shepherd's hut, with woodburning stove and a kettle sitting on top. What a lovely spot!

There are further photos of the gardens in my Blipfolio here, and in Cathaber's blip.
