Deer Abbey
A visit to the Broch to look at wood burning stoves. Unfortunately the shop in Mintlaw was closed for the Trades holiday - so we retreated to the Happy Plant Garden Centre (here)for lunch.
Visited the ruins of Deer Abbey on the way home -never been there before but well worth a visit - especially on a glorious summer's day . This Cistercian Abbey was founded in 1219 by the Earl Of Buchan. Seemingly the monks there may have owned the Book of Deer - the oldest body of written Gaelic.
