Washout............

The swell, as predicted , was monstrous this morning. The wind was howling and there were a dozen or so photographers out at North Avoca. The base of the headland which enjoys an elevation was being swept over by large waves....at LOW tide! I didn't spend long in this area, took a few quick pics and retreated to a safer distance down the rocks. There was a large bank of cloud and the sunrise was very soft indeed. A bit of a washout!
I have some shots along the wet sandy beach and playing around with the rock patterns of the headland but I kept coming back to this one. The patterns in the wash of water over the rocks, the almost monochromatic effect, the light on the wet rock shelf, the light and shadow.......
As I was leaving and a good way back the beach I stopped at the edge of the water to take a pic and a sizeable wave washed in from the side around these rocks and caught me by surprise washing up over my knees and completely filling my gumboots! Another washout!
The card that this image came off failed......I was lucky to retrieve about half the images I took and the raw files were all corrupted. I only salvaged some jpegs. Another washout !
Some days just don't start as well as others!
So after a sizeable dose of frustration by 8 am .....I think I need to go out again at dawn tomorrow to wash away today ............

My daughter and I did a family girls lunch in Newcastle and then walked through the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition on display in the Library of Newcastle. I had wanted to see this at the Natural history Museum late last year in London but was swamped with the international move and ran out of time so it was a real treat to see it today :)
