A Wake of Turkey Vultures

The Fern Ridge Wetlands in west Eugene is a never ending source of entertainment for me.

Today I found a “Wake” of Turkey Vultures feeding on something they discovered on the muddy bank.

The square post in the foreground is actually a water depth gauge that seemed to be a favored perch for the birds today.

These Turkey Vultures provided quite a contrast to a Great Blue Heron that flew in and landed.

The Great Blue Heron stayed only a few minutes with this group of “tough guys”.
