Monsoon Hike

The second field day, ended up being the highlight of the week. The day started slowly, arguing with Jonty about going to help the windy babes put up their wind turbine. A matatu ride later, we were back at the Muweera river. This time we went further up, to find a more suitable location for the power plant. The civil guys had a lot more work to do than us, so Johannes, MLJ, Shree and me decided to go for a hike up the steep mountainside, through fields of crops, to survey where the channel could lead before heading down to the powerhouse. Matt gave up after a while, wheezing like a true smoker. Johannes (pictured), Shree and me however were having too much of a good time so decided to just go on a hike up into the mountains through the communities living there. Community walk 2.0. That was another "screw the project" moment which ended up working out great for us. We climbed to the top of the ridge, at which point it started to rain a bit and lightning was rolling out over the horizon. Beautiful!

After taking a break, watched by a bunch of kids who'd followed us on their makeshift scooters, we decided to curve around into the valley and rejoin the stream much higher up, before heading back down to the village. Ended up being useful for the project as well. We got back to the village, bought a couple Eagles and had our lunch of avocados and pringles, as per usual.

On the matatu ride back, God made us promise to come out and predrink at Colin's! We said we had a couple things to do first, including a pit stop for Sadler and Kwis to buy local moonshine (not a good idea!). Shree and me got two more crates from our man Andrew's. That brings our beer bill for just this week to £102 for 75 litres of beer. Who needs water?

In the evening, Team Terry hired a matatu to Dutchess, so the rest of us manned up and got bodas there. At our favorite restaurant, Kowse, Matt, Ali, Kris, Shree and me ordered nine calzones for the six of us, what a feast. Then a big night out at Forrest, with the rest of Team Colin, plus God, Judith and Terry! Jayshit and Sussil ended up joining too, for what ended up being an outrageous night. A reggae band was playing at Forrest and when they finished we hit Africana with a bottle of Bond down my pants. Tiring night, lots of fun and many more stories to add to the pile...
