The appearance of the bark of an oak tree is as strong as the tree itself. For many centuries the oak has been used for building our homes, and building the ships of our Royal Navy. The Elizabethan ships that defeated the Spanish Armada were built from oaks from this area. The oak appears in the arms of Surrey and it is the emblem of The National Trust. It has earned our respect.
