Wool on the Wall

Today the Farmers' Market at Greenhead had a joint event with Wool on the Wall. At 10am the first sheep was hand shorn, using old fashioned clippers. (The farmer told us that before clippers, sheep's wool was plucked.) Then the fleece was taken to the spinners, the yarn spun and the knitters arrived to knit squares for a shawl. Their aim was fleece to shawl in 6 hours.

It was lovely to see all the different spinning wheels under the shade of a large gazebo. The bright light outside made photography inside very difficult. I wished I had my flash gun to provide a bit of fill in flash.

In the Greenhead Hotel there were stands with wools, fleeces and wool products for sale. Mum bought me a handbag of Harris tweed which looks very smart.

We were able to support quite a few stalls in the farmers' market too. Well done to all the organisers.
