Fire

A great day on a bushcraft workshop in Birmingham - not the first place you might think of, but they have some nice parks and apart from the trains every so often I forgot where we were. The weather was great, and the only time I was inside yesterday was on the train and going to the pub toilet later in the evening!

We learned about a few useful plants, then had a go at starting a small fire. Mine got going first time, which I think was the silver birch bark that I was given to add. Then we did some wood carving, so I have a rather strange spoon in progress which I will blip when finished, and finally learned how to make cord from nettle stems.

I had blisters on my hands by the end of the day, but I've ordered myself a knife so they'll just have to get used to it.
