A not-so-firm decision

We've been meaning to replace our mattress for some time: you're supposed to change it every 10 years or so and ours is well past that now. So we went to John Lewis today and in the process of choosing a new one, completely reversed our preconceptions.

The John Lewis guy was absolutely brilliant, taking us through all the different options. We thought we wanted a firm mattress, like our current one, but actually we ended up with a medium one. The firm ones don't "give" with your body (unless you're very heavy) but the medium ones follow your natural alignment and reduce pressure on your shoulders and hips. All this time I thought my pillow was at fault but it was actually the mattress pushing my shoulders out of kilter. A revelation. They're delivering it next Thursday, I can't wait!
