Castle Rimburg

Rimburg is a village (consisting of the cores Rimburg and Broekhuizen) on the river Worm in eastern South Limburg.

In Roman times, the Roman road Boulogne-Cologne crossed the river Worm in the current Rimburg. A remnant of a landmark is located on the Broekhuizerweg.
In the Middle Ages Rimburg was a glory which until 1778 had an independent position within the Holy Roman Empire. In 1778 Rimburg became part of the country 's Hertogenrade in the Austrian Netherlands.
In 1795 the manor was with aldermen annexed by France.

The river Worm forms at Rimburg a natural mark of the Dutch-German border. In Germany the river is called Wurm. Across the Worm, on the territory of the German municipality Übach-Palenberg is the castle of Rimburg, which is still in aristocratic hands.
Between 1949 and 1963 it was the castle area annexed by the Netherlands and as part of the municipality Ubach over Worms.
