According to the CRS guys, the beach is a dangerous place, given the strength of the tides, I do not doubt them.

The zone where you are able to swim was extremely limited. Apparently the coast lost up to 10 metres following the winter storms which hit the West of France at the same time as those which hit the UK. In fact the storms were so bad that in certain places, 200 metres of beach have vanished and the only ugly buildings in Soulac were getting so close to the edge, they are going to be pulled down.
