The Last of the Many.......
,,,,,,,,,,poppies that I have had this year - they really have excelled themselves! I've Blipped poppies before but there are only two or three left and they are so lovely, I couldn't resist these last few.
My BOUI for today:
1) Mythology : . Mekon was a youth loved by the goddess Demeter. Following his premature death she transformed him into a poppy flower.
2) Red poppies appeared on the field of Waterloo after the Duke of Wellington s victory and were thought to have grown from the blood of those who fell. After the first World War, thousands of poppies grew on the battlefield of Flanders.
3) A poppy flower is depicted on the reverse of the Macedonian 500 denars banknote, issued in 1996 and 2003. The poppy is also part of the coat of arms of the Republic of Macedonia.
4) Eschscholzia californica (California poppy, golden poppy, California sunlight, cup of gold) is a species of flowering plant in the family Papaveraceae, native to the United States and Mexico, and the official state flower of California.

The garden is not looking its best - since my back and leg problems, I've not been able to give it the attention it deserves. I would love to get someone in to give it a good clearing out and a tidy up - there seem to be few so-called gardeners who know what they are doing and those who do and say they will return , just don't come back! Why do they advertise if they don't want the work - it's not as if it would be a mammoth task! There ends my gripe for today!
The weather started off grey and dull but is now brightening up with sporadic sunshine - the temperature is around 66 Deg.F so it could get very warm later. Actually, we could do with a good downpour!
Hope you are all having a lovely weekend!
