Not my first choice

I whittled the photos down to two or three and finally decided on one showing a caterpillar scaling a stem of grass.

Loaded it up on blipfoto and then went back to my Small Tortoiseshell just to check. I have four of images of it before it fluttered away but because it is so common around here I discarded them.

What a mistake I thought when I looked in detail at it. The, what I presume is pollen on the base of the left wing, shows in detail and the colours seem to be a perfect representation of the subject.
