A postcard from ...
.. the 1960s
Such a nice day today. I took Tom to the New Cross Model Railway Exhibition where it was 2014 outside and 1960-something inside. It was rather lovely, there were lots of incredibly intricate model railway set-ups and some very kind grandfatherly railway enthusiasts let Tom control some of the trains, shunt the sidings and change the points (out of my depth with the terminology as you can see, but Tom was engrossed). At one point one chap suggested that Tom should join a Junior Model Railways Club and his eyes lit up. Then he looked at me and said, 'and you could always go along and make the tea'.
Speechless!
I called my husband for permission to drive the car home, and then we went to MUNCH, Peckham's finest food festival and we had waffles, snow cones, chicken shish, prawn wraps and beer. Spent the afternoon doing the cleaning and tidying I should have done yesterday, while Tom and Sally played, made monsters and listened to Test Match Special in a den on the balcony. Grace was a superstar and cleaned her entire bedroom - even under the bed.
Tea in the garden, listening to distant rumbles of thunder, some fierce games of Monopoly Deal, and a lovely gentle family evening.
This Blip was taken by Tom of one of the brilliant layouts at the exhibition and will remind me of today.
