Purple Tansy (Phacelia)

There are a couple of fields just up the road from me. I passed them yesterday but didn't have my camera so went off this morning to do a shoot. There were two other photographers there who had the same idea so we had a good old chinwag about things photographic. Farmers use this plant as a cover crop - that is they plant it one year because it is good for the soil (the roots act like solar engines that carry nitrogen etc. deep down into the soil) and attract good insects (bees and hoverflies), then they plough it in and next year plant cash crops such as potatoes. It will be interesting to see what is planted there next year - probably my blip of the day then!

Hope you are all enjoying the weekend:-)
