It's the little things
Like little toenails being cut that is fascinating. Harper watched andre cut all his baby nails with intense concentration. Harper barely blinked as one by one there was a clip. I don't know why this amazed him but it was sweet to see.
I've noticed harper a few times recently pick things up and put them on the couch or in something. I think soon the posting stage will start! Ahhh the 'if it fits i will put it there' stage. Marley and Kanye went through this stage at the same time and they used to post all manner of things into the hole in the speaker at my in laws.
Most days my father in law would come home, unscrew the back and retrieve that days contents. He then decided to put mesh over and thwart the posting actions of my little ones, did it deter them? Of course not they just found somewhere else to post.
The older two don't post any more but I still do find things in odd places, mostly food items but the occasional lego piece in a shoe or a car in our bed. Little objects here and there. It's usually under furniture but today they surprised me. I pulled the couch out to adjust the cover and there stuck on the wall was peanut butter toast. I couldn't get mad, i actually felt congratulatory on such an achievement. Well sort of. I did have to clean it off after all.
The mother of all posts though had to be when Marley was little and he put his fire engine ( plastic I might add) in the oven for safe keeping, his brother would never look there and neither would we until my mother in law turned it on and we smelt a burning smell. Opened the oven to find a not so together fire engine.
So with this in mind i look forward to where I'll find stuff when harper really gets into it. (Yes I say it now, don't quote me on it, we all know deep down there'll be a future blip on the frustration of posting).
I've also noticed he seems to have a desperate urge like he's on some top secret baby mission to get into Marleys room and put the lego in his mouth but only the wheels. It's like there's a code inscribed into the little wheel and only by putting it in his mouth and turning it around by holding it with his finger will he get the information he needs . Another room that seems to be a place he needs to go is the toilet. I don't need him finding any sort of information by licking the toilet bowl so that door stays shut. Emptying the contents of the bathroom bin is another important job that needs to be done just not by me. I mean why not just tip it all on the floor harper and do find something in there to chew on. Ugh.
We had a pretty quiet day. We drank coffee and went for a walk, that's pretty much it. Andre and I looked like half awake zombies this afternoon. How is it possible that these kids maintain a consistently high level of energy every day, all day? Why don't they tire when we need them to?
They both threw a tantrum at dinner tonight just to add atmosphere. I made roast chicken and vege. Kanye wanted juice we said no eat first. Well life's not fair hey. He did not want to eat so cried and hollered. When andre got up to remove him from the table he decided chicken wasn't so bad after all and ate all of it. Marley, I knew wouldn't eat what we were ( he's really picky and pretty much a vegetarian) eating so I made him something else. That was all wrong. The yogurt is disgusting he said and he cried, got angry and stressed out. He didn't want to eat it, you know why? It's got new packaging therefore it is not the same yogurt that he used to love and have 2 pottles of a day. I tried explaining that the people who make it wanted to put a new picture of a strawberry on it for him, he tried it with the tip of his tongue then scrunched up his face. His pickiness goes back to when he was little when the food changed consistency before he was ready for it to be. He stopped eating. As in all together. He lived on raisins and peanut butter toast for the better part of a year before he came out of this phase and tried something new. Since then his eating habits change regularly. Sound tiring? It is.
So the older two got put to bed a little earlier for their behavior at the table, andre and I are now slumped on our incredibly comfortable couch with a cup of tea and some ginger nuts too tired to find the remote so we'll just watch stuff on mute.
