Our home for a few days.......

This is Amberley Castle in Sussex, now a hotel and restaurant. We were staying at this wonderful medieval castle which still has a moat and 18 metre high curtain walls. There is a working portcullis, which is lowered each evening just before midnight, this keeps the guests safe from marauding Britons! Beyond the stone arch and portcullis you can see the South Downs, there are also wonderful views to be enjoyed from the battlements.

Today the chaos of battles have long past making this an enchanting place to stay. The gardens are exquisite and lovingly tendered by just two lady gardeners, a mother and daughter team.
