Police Scotland Day 97, year 2 - mounted unit

Houston’s happy retirement…

Happy retirement to Police Scotland horse Houston, who after 14 years of policing service, is moving on to pastures new. Houston, a 20-year-old cross bred mare, was bought as a six-year-old by Strathclyde Police, and quickly became one of the most trusted horses – while also playing a key role in the development of new members of staff.

Houston has been involved in all kinds of police duties through the years – including high-profile football matches, public order, community events and public processions. She has been an absolute credit to the force, has great character, and will be missed by all the staff at the mounted unit.

With her duties complete, Houston is moving to the World Horse Welfare at Aboyne in Aberdeenshire where she now begins her well earned retirement. With lots of fields and new surroundings to explore, we’re sure she’ll love it.

Good luck, Houston.
