'Melman from Inside'

As opposed to 'Look it's Melman' from the outside.

I took the day off work today after all of the load and extra hours over the past 6 weeks. I'll be handing back the keys (speaking metaphorically) back to our boss on Monday.

We decided to head into the city to take the kids to see the DreamWorks animation exhibition at ACMI (Australian Centre for the Moving Image). The character development sketches really grabbed me. Some of the original sketches of Shrek for example were quite scary and you see the gradual softening down of the character through it's development.

The 4 minute scene projected onto a 180 degree curved screen was quite amazing, showing the development of a scene through initial pencil sketches, then adding some colour and then gradually building up the scene turning it into the slick animated images that end up in the movie. We all felt a bit ill from the movement in there though.

After that we walked down to Southbank for some lunch and then went up to the top of the Eureka Tower for a look. I was quite a nice clear sunny day and the views went on for at least 50km I'd estimate.

Then a run back to the car to try to beat the parking ticket expiry time which we missed by about 5 minutes or so, but no ticket so all good. I was originally going to park in a the Federation Square carpark, but they wanted $16 per hour for parking which would have ended up costing us $48 for 3 hours. We parked just behind the Kings Domain Gardens a ten minute walk away for $2 per hour. Much better.

Getting ready to watch the footy tonight, Hawks v Crows in Adelaide, should be a ripper game.
