Build me up Buttercup

Annoyingly, this is the second time I've typed this, as I received the message that Blip was busy, just as I tried to upload my entry, so here goes again.

I didn't know until I looked it up just now that the clematis is a genus of about 300 species within the buttercup family Ranunculaceae. Fancy that. I've learnt something from my own blip. This little beauty is in our garden and climbing up a pergola. It is especially pretty right now.

Tonight our speaker at WI was talking about meningitis and the common signs and symptoms. She particularly stressed the urgency to get hold of medical help if you suspect that a patient may have meningitis, and that time is critical. Meningitis can strike any age group and not just youngsters.

There are evidently about 10 common symptoms and a patient may have some of them but not all. For example, most ladies present thought that there was always a rash - not so evidently. Sometimes but not always.

She urged us to be familiar with the signs, and if three or more were evident and you are concerned, get help as soon as possible.

She also urged us to spread the word, so here is a link to the meningitis website - which also has a telephone number for a 24 hour nurse-led helpline.

The lady was an excellent speaker, and knew what she was talking about, as swift action had saved her little boy's life.
