Home from Home....

Walking to Book Club today, I passed the old Victorian school building where I used to teach. The building was closed in 2007, and we were moved to a new building, all in the name of progress, aka money!!

As you can see, the building is back in use and has now been turned into new homes. The open door was the door to my classroom's cloakroom, with my classroom filling the first 'chunk' of the building. Unbelievably my one classroom alone has been turned into two homes! The cars are parked in what was the playground.

It was a beautiful classroom in which to teach, with lovely Victorian windows and high, beamed ceiling. It did have its quirky moments, like when it started raining maggots as there was a dead pigeon in the roof space above; or whenever there was a downpour and the playground flooded leading to the classroom flooding; or when the heating would break down in Winter and children and staff would have to wear their coats all day. Nevertheless, I spent twelve happy years teaching in that classroom, it was my home from home...

If you would like to see what the school looked like in 1907, here's a link.

A busy day preparing for my next mini Summer escapade tomorrow! Hope the footie doesn't go into extra time tonight, I've got an early start in the morning!!

And thank you once again to you all for all your lovely comments and congratulations on my 365th Blip yesterday!!
