Red Admiral on privet
I spent a chunk of the day in the car or in a pub (lovely lunch!) so the chance of a walk along the Hampshire coast, even during a rain storm, was seized with glee. Walking along one of the glorious lanes, with an elm hedge on one side and a mixed privet, ivy and honeysuckle hedge on the other, a flash of red, black and white zoomed past at head height. Luckily, the sight of lots of privet flowers just opening was enough to stop this Red Admiral in its tracks and it perched obligingly for a short while.
