Celebration

"Never, in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few." - Winston Churchill (1874-1965) after the Battle of Britain in 1940.

It is a celebration on a day when (and not least because of my brother's insistence) they changed Dad's medication at 4am this morning and so by the time I got to the hospital at 2pm, the hallucinatory effect of the opiate cocktail was wearing off and for the first time since I returned from Istanbul, Dad was coherent, lucid and articulate - my darling Dad is Back.

Ale in England #3 - Spitfire (brewed by Shepherd Neame)

Shepherd Neame is an English regional brewery founded in 1698 in Faversham, Kent. It is the oldest brewer in Great Britain and has been family-owned since 1864 (wikipedia). This particular beer was introduced in 1990 by the brewery to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the Battle of Britain. I bought this beer simply for the label. During his national service - a couple of years after WWII had ended, Dad was an airforce radio operator who still knows his morse code and loves the old wartime planes - Lancasters and Spitfires .

The beer was quite nice too.

The weather is incredible - hot and sunny @28ºC !!
