Evil Ke-Neil-vel and the Donegal Wall of Death
When we woke this morning the weather was terrible - high winds and pouring rain. We mooched about for a while and then decided to stick with Plan A - to get the ferry from Burtonport to Arranmore and to hire bikes.
By the time we arrived on the island, the sky was brightening. The bike man was there to meet us off the ferry, and the bikes were electric, so that helped a bit with the steep hills ahead. It was all worth it for the cliff top views as we approached the lighthouse. It was even worth what I would call my "uncontrolled dismount" when a bee got stuck in my helmet.
After a restorative Guinness we walked to the old churchyard and back, before catching the ferry back, watching the second half of the France-Germany game and grabbing a bite to eat. And who should be next to us but Ireland international goalkeeper and Burtonport native Packie Bonner?
Happy days.
