Undisturbed.

Today I decided that it was time to attack the room in preparation for the guys coming in to do the kitchen. I wanted to find out if the paper around the window was a cover up job. (It's not uncommon to find that the original wooden shutters were fastened to the frame and then covered in plywood before being tastefully decorated with wallpaper). Anyway it was and I got the ply off before sawing through the fastening nails with a very old hacksaw blade. (Why is it that the only tool you need is the one that you don't have?). Got them freed up eventually and although the central panel is missing, they're in pretty good condition.

Sure they are a wonderful mix of that clinical green as well as dirty brown paints and Victorian varnish, but a power sander and a few hours of tlc should see them OK. (Sadly paint stripper is not an option as it dissolves the old glues).

One of the nice things about uncovering things like this is that sometimes you find little messages hidden inside. Not sure what it meant as it was quite difficult to make bits out, but someone had written "The room sign means happy motoring. AJ 1/11" in chalk.

Anyway, sleeves up and get on with it.
