"Mudajar"
Archez lies in the valley just below the village where I live.
What stands out from all the village's, narrow winding streets is the Torre Alminar (minaret tower) of the Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación. The 16th-century church is a example of mudejar architecture and has been declared a national monument.
The Mudajar tower is on the previous site of a mosque, the minaret dating from the 13th century preserved in perfect condition.
Legend has it that, once upon a time, a lizard fell into the forge where the bell for the church was being made and got stuck to it.
If you are single and of marriageable age, you can go up the tower to touch the lizard and you will "Well you can guess the rest!
