Campitello di Fasso

After, but not because of, the heavy rain last night, we decided to move to a different part of the Dolomites. We loved Siusi, a lot, and we’d thought we’d stay until Sunday, but for a variety of reasons it felt like it was time to move on.

The plan today was to head to Fasso, look around, see what it was like, and then move onto Bruneck if it wasn’t what we expected, we’re searching for decent biking, and this blog had suggested it was a good place.. Made it away from Siusi at 10.30, on a fantastic morning, leaving ne o the best campsites, beautiful, off for the 50km drive to the Fassa region, basically, just on the other side of the park where we’ve been staying.

Lovely drive ad we arrived first at Vigo do Fasso, stopped at the visitor center, and decided to head on to Pozza do Fasso. Lovely town, in a beautiful setting, and a gorgeous campsite and wellness resort. We nearly stayed, but as we hadn’t yet oriented the region, we headed up to another 10km to Campitello where we found Camping Miravalle. Wow, so close to town, and a beautiful little town it is, and such a gorgeous area, sandwiched against the river and huge mountains. In love with this place, immediately. We had to stay!

Got all the gear set out to dry and then we headed up the road to the next town, Canazei, to check out a series of programs we’d seen from the local tourist commission, www.fassasport.com.

Basically, amazing. Tomorrow we’re visiting a local dairy farm, the next day we’re doing a via Ferrta, and the day after possibly a mountain bike tour, and the following day, we might spend the day in a bike park … fantastic! Paradise found.

But this means a little bit of extra gear is required. Gloves for the kids, shoes for Hannah, so some shopping ensued ... then back to the campsite for a salami, cheese and wine dinner, enjoying the fabulous scenery, as you can see here, from the campsite. Wow!

Interestingly, we stayed at the rifugio several nights ago, on the left flanks of this range, just 2.45 hours walk from here …

Also interesting, we’re only around 20-30km as the crow flies from where we’ve been exploring the last few days, which has a huge German influence. On this side however, virtually none. Italian is the first spoken language, and English appears to be second. German, not heard it, despite being the dominant language only a few km away. So interesting.
