Dragon Eggs

I was up in the Fens of Cambridgeshire today, near a nice town called March, and took a bike ride along route 63 of the National Cycle Network. This passed through several nature reserves which were rich in many different species of dragonfly, including some hawkers which I had not seen before (the Brown Emperor) and an abundance of Four-Spotted Chasers. The Emperor Dragonfly was present in some numbers too. This female was trying to get a moments peace to distribute her eggs in the weed of the pond but kept getting mobbed by the Chasers, so she didn't hang around longer than a few seconds at each 'drop-off' point, making it difficult to catch her in action. However, anyone who has sat down for half an hour next to a dragonfly patch will know that these are creatures of habit, and return to the same spot and fly along the same route time and time again, so I only had to sit and wait till she returned. The blue sky reflected in the pondwater along with the colourful specimen, made this shot a bit of an assault on the senses, but it works I think.
