Pretty in pink
Looking about for a Blip on my way home (through the garden!) I thought that this shrub was looking particularly good. This is a pink version of the Tasmanian Leatherwood, Eucryphia lucida 'Pink Cloud'. The species is normally white-flowered, but this variety was found as a 20m specimen growing in a remote part of NW Tasmania. What a find! Imagine going home and saying 'You'll never guess what I found today dear!' 'Oh, is that all? I thought it might have been something exciting!'
The species is a fairly delicate looking, smallish upright shrub, compared with the several other species of Eucryphia which are more chunky and all of which flower in summer. The best in my opinion is E. glutinosa, the only deciduous species, which comes from Chile and makes a magnificent hardy tree. I will Blip it in due course!
