Six Spots
At first I saw this moth flying but keeping a close watch and tracking saw it settle. A quick lens change and was down on my knees facing the other way to all the tourists who honestly couldn't understand what was going on. A few odd looks over my shoulder but hey!
These six red spots on each of this moth's forewings are arranged in distinct pairs. The main food of the caterpillars are trefoil and vetch, which contain cyanide derivatives. Passed on through the caterpillar stage to the mature moth, these poisons deter predatory birds!
