Godetia

I tried growing these from seed for the first time this year. To give them a head start (it's chilly up here ;-)) I planted them in the greenhouse - not a good idea it seems! The seedlings flopped, lay down, hung around and looked generally pathetic, in fact they almost landed on the compost!

Never one to give up I planted them in the flower bed (at the back where they were not easily blown over) and now they've started to flower. Now I also see why they are often called satin flowers - the petals are almost like tissue paper or crepe paper maybe. Beautiful blooms that last a long time as cut flowers - not sure I'll grow them again tho', or if I do they'll have to take their chances outdoors!
